minimal ambient artist Antonymes releases new single ‘endlessly’

Antonymes - Endlessly
Antonymes - Endlessly
“Hidden Shoal Recordings is proud to announce the release of the new single ‘Endlessly’ by neo-classical/minimal ambient artist Antonymes, along with its accompanying video, taken from the forthcoming album The Licence To Interpret Dreams.

In its opening moments, ‘Endlessly’ patiently weaves traces of nature with unearthly, oscillating tones, creating a delicate, pensive atmosphere. Its apex comes halfway through as the gentle tones give way to a strident, emotive piano theme. The accompanying video is a continuation of Antonymes’ stunning explorations into the still and moving image. Hypnotic, minimal and expertly crafted, it is the perfect visual echo of the music.

The Licence To Interpret Dreams is an album of resonant beauty, it is as expansive as the wilds of North Wales from which it came, yet as delicate and intimate as a loved one’s breath upon your skin. Each song deploys a modest array of instruments and textures, giving them ample space to breathe and glow. The album is released on 21 April, distributed via n5Mailorder, and will be available for pre-order from 1 April.”

01 you are a (scientific) loner

01 you are a (scientific) loner by Compulsive Recordings

“In 1977 a golden record was produced as a documentation of our earth and it’s inhabitants. This included photos, diagrams, music, sounds and greetings. It was attached to the voyager and sent on a mission in to deep space. This record is the farthest man-made object from our earth. It has now left our solar system.

LONER is an auditory interpretation of the golden disc. Inspired by writings and sound concepts by John Cage this is a fuzzy soundscape, restricted in frequency, using only sounds found on the original golden disc. Samples were taken from the golden disc and each track was created in one live take. No looking back.

Thunderous crescendos, hypnotic loops and snippets of human song speeding through space in eerie silence.

Tape | US Tour and New Album ‘Fugue’

Tape - Moth Wings

Swedish band Tape brought their minimalistic instrumental pop to the US again this winter for a tour with Brooklyn duo Mountains (the two bands previously toured the states together in 2004). The Stockholm-based trio, which includes brothers Andreas Berthling (electronics) and Johan Berthling (guitar) as well as Tomas Hallonsten (keyboards), released a new album earlier this month entitled Fugue, a collaboration with legendary Scottish jazz guitarist Bill Wells.

US audiences heard only one track from Tape’s latest album during their recent live sets, however. The band mostly performed songs from their 2008 release Luminarum (check out a track from that album, “Moth Wings,” above). Fans may have also been surprised to see the addition of a fourth member on stage, drummer Andreas Söderström, who provided an extra rhythmic element to the band’s trademark ambient approach.

Following their US dates, the band returns home to finish the recording of yet another new album and has plans to perform in Europe later in the spring, including the Nattjazz festival in Norway.

Check out live video footage of Tape’s show at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City during the Unsound Festival on February 10, 2010:
